After studying at the Medical University of Vienna, Prof. Dr. Abela-Formanek worked at the Department of General Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeryat the University Hospital of Vienna. In 1997 she moved to the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry in Vienna, where she began her specialist training. In 1999, she performed her first cataract surgery using the small incision surgical technique.
The opportunity to work with very experienced surgeons and clinicians enabled a thorough education in Ophthalmology ensuring a background to perform reliable diagnosis and treatment. With her intensive training and her many years of experience in the fields of cataract surgery and retinal surgery, Prof. Dr. Abela-Formanek is one of the most experienced surgeons in Austria.
